Khedryn Faal

"Push until it gives."

―Khedryn Faal's motto

Khedryn Faal was a Human male captain who captained the ship Junker. He was distinguished by his lazy eye, which shaped how he viewed every aspect of life, his poor luck at sabacc, which never kept him from playing, and his deep antipathy toward droids.

Biography

Early life

Khedryn was born on the remains of the Outbound Flight Project in the Redoubt and was orphaned at an early age. He spent his adolescence aboard the crashed spaceship until Luke Skywalker and Mara Jade Skywalker rescued him and the other survivors in 22 ABY. Unlike the other survivors, he never developed a hatred of the Jedi and held Luke and Mara in high regard. In the years that followed, he traveled and served aboard many spaceships, from the Empire of the Hand to the Outer Rim Territories and the Core Worlds. He also lived for a time on Corellia and Coruscant, but he never considered anywhere but the Redoubt home until he set foot on Fhost.

Salvage and friendship

"Marr, efficiency on number three power exchange is one hundred nine percent. Let that settle in. My Cerean friend. Just bask in it." "Basking as ordered."

―Captain Khedryn and First Mate Marr Idi-Shael of JunkerDuring his travels, Khedryn teamed up with the Force-sensitive Cerean math savant Marr Idi-Shael and made him first mate aboard the Junker, a YT-2400 light freighter. Marr proved to be both a good friend and an exceptional navigator, capable of calculating hyperspace jumps as well as a navicomputer. After one of their more illicit enterprises went awry, they had to take a detour on their way back to Fhost, during which they intercepted an encoded automated distress beacon. It came from the frozen moon of a gas giant. They decided to salvage whatever lay there later and returned to Fhost.Khedryn later lost the data crystal containing the beacon's coordinates in a rigged sabacc game against Reegas Vance. With help from Jaden Korr, they managed to win it back and escape the Black Hole Cantina. Jaden Korr asked them to take him to the moon he had seen in a Force vision, and Khedryn agreed. Only moments after they entered the system, they witnessed the arrival of Harbinger, a Sith ship transported five thousand years through time by an erroneous hyperspace jump. They also encountered Jedi Master Relin Druur, who had caused that time-traveling jump. After initially resisting, Khedryn and Marr agreed to help Jaden reach the moon's surface and bring Relin to the Harbinger so they could destroy it and its dangerous cargo of Lignan crystal. While Relin and Marr flew Junker into Harbinger's landing bay, Khedryn and Jaden landed on the moon in the Junker's Starhawk shuttle shuttle. There they discovered an old Imperial research station created by Grand Admiral Thrawn. As they explored the station, they learned that the scientists had combined DNA from Jedi and Sith, using DNA from Kam Solusar, Mara Jade Skywalker, Lumiya, Palpatine, and others. The experiment had spiraled out of control, however, and the clones had slaughtered the researchers. When Jaden said he felt compelled to help any surviving clones, Khedryn called him obsessed and left for the shuttle. On the way back, he realized he could not abandon Jaden, who had become a friend, and decided to return. He then encountered Kell Douro, who had secretly hunted Jaden since Fhost. Kell broke Khedryn's right wrist and nose, left him unconscious and unarmed, and continued toward Jaden. After recovering consciousness, Khedryn armed himself with the only E-11b blaster rifle remaining in the station's armory. He arrived just in time to kill Kell before he could feed on Jaden, who was exhausted from fighting Kam Solusar's clone. As they left the station, they saw the remaining clones escape in Kell's ship. After watching Harbinger being destroyed and reuniting with Marr, they departed the system. When Jaden Korr announced that he would have to hunt the remaining clones, Khedryn and Marr offered their help, which he accepted.

Hunting the clones

After agreeing to help Jaden hunt the clones, Marr was soon offered Jedi training by Jaden. Khedryn was initially somewhat uncomfortable with the idea and offered Marr the option of leaving his position as Junker's first mate. Marr refused, much to Khedryn's relief, and they returned to Fhost to recover before beginning their hunt for the clones. However, they heard that a medical facility was under attack and went there, assuming the clones were responsible. They were right, and Khedryn was ordered to remain behind as the last line of defense against the clones stealing Junker. When the clones got past Jaden, Khedryn was warned that they would probably hijack a medical supply ship carrying the medication needed for their strange illness. Khedryn helped the supply ship's captain and copilot escape before the clones arrived, but soon faced the clones himself. After trying unsuccessfully to shoot them down, Khedryn was knocked unconscious by one of them, Runner. His life was saved by Soldier, a clone of Jaden Korr, who said they might discover how Jaden had located them. Khedryn was captured and taken aboard the supply ship.

When Khedryn awoke aboard the supply ship, he was extremely surprised to learn that Soldier was a clone of Jaden. Asked how Jaden had found them, Khedryn answered truthfully that it had happened by chance. Since he had no useful information to provide, Seer, another clone, ordered his execution. While Runner escorted Khedryn through the corridors to throw him out of the airlock, as Khedryn had requested, Runner was attacked by the Umbaran assassin Nyss Nenn. Nenn killed Runner, inadvertently saving Khedryn's life. As Khedryn fled, Nenn captured him and tied him up in one of the corridors. Nenn then contacted Jaden, attempting to use Khedryn as a bargaining chip and ordering Korr to surrender. Khedryn was soon found by Grace, the child of two of the clones. Grace freed Khedryn, who made his way to the bridge, determined to seize control of the ship and protect Grace from Nyss. He found Soldier tied up in the cockpit and freed him, enabling Soldier to attack Nenn. Khedryn then escaped in a pod and was soon picked up by Junker. They went on to recover Jaden from space, as the Jedi had prepared to enter the supply ship at Nenn's instruction.

The crew of Junker then tracked the clones to a system deep in the Unknown Regions, where they found them docked at a strange Rakatan space station. Khedryn dropped Jaden and Marr at the station but was attacked by Nenn. After fleeing into an asteroid belt to escape Nyss, he saw that the Umbaran had docked with the station. Khedryn then docked as well, hoping to warn Jaden and Marr about Nyss or stop the Umbaran himself. Far behind the others, Khedryn attempted to use the station's lift system to descend to its subsurface levels. The systems went offline during the descent, leaving him trapped in the lift. Unknown to him, the station's problems resulted from Mother, the entity inhabiting the station, having just transferred her consciousness into Seer's body. He managed to clear enough space to fall the remaining distance to the end of the lift, which was not far, but was knocked unconscious when he struck the ground. Khedryn later awoke and contacted Jaden, who warned him that Mother was approaching. He climbed back to the station and encountered several animated corpses powered by it. After shooting them down, Khedryn set the supply ship's engines to explode, which would destroy the station. He soon regrouped with Jaden, Marr, Soldier, and Grace, and they parted ways with the clones, who took Grace's medicine before the supply ship exploded and escaped aboard Nyss's ship. Khedryn, Jaden, and Marr escaped in Junker, and the station exploded soon afterward, killing Mother.

Personality and traits

"Nah, that's just my floater, Jedi. Helps me see the angles."

―Khedyrn Faal on his lazy eye in conversation with Jaden Korr

Khedryn Faal believed his lazy eye gave him a perspective on the world different from that of others. Before meeting Jaden, Khedryn showed little loyalty to anyone or anything besides himself. Faal moved from planet to planet, continually fleeing before responsibility could take hold. He eventually settled on Fhost, whose lack of authority appealed to him. He made a few exceptions, most notably his friendship with Marr Idi Shael. Khedryn was fiercely loyal to and protective of his friend and first mate. After meeting Jaden, Khedryn's priorities began to shift. He found he could not leave Jaden behind in the Imperial facility on the frozen moon, a choice that led him to save Korr's life. Khedryn later endangered his own life to bring the pilot and copilot of the medical supply ship out of danger before the clones hijacked it. He also grew highly protective of Grace, particularly after she freed him aboard the supply ship. He believed Jaden's Jedi principles were beginning to influence him. Khedryn was a skilled blaster shot and carried an IR-5 blaster pistol.
