Kol Atorn

Kol Atorn was a celestial body that existed in the Outer Rim Territories' Kanz sector. Settlers who were Mandalorian emigrants and exiles established a colony there. One person was raised in Kol Atorn's alleyways, learning a regional dialect of the Mando'a language from the planet's inhabitants. This individual later rose to prominence as a celebrated Mandalorian leader known as Mandalore the Hammerborn.

Description

Kol Atorn was a land-based astronomical object located within the star system bearing the same designation, situated within the Kanz sector of the New Territories region of the Outer Rim Territories. It was a considerable distance away from Mandalore, the planet in the Mandalore sector that served as the homeworld for the Mandalorian warrior culture. The celestial body's surface was characterized by alleys.

History

Mandalorian emigrants and exiles eventually colonized Kol Atorn, and the celestial body evolved into an outpost of Mandalorian culture, with its inhabitants speaking a unique version of the Mando'a language. A person who grew up in the alleys of Kol Atorn picked up Mando'a from the Mandalorians living there. This person went on to become one of the greatest Mandalores, the leaders of the Mandalorian people, and was eventually given the name Mandalore the Hammerborn.

The Ba'jurne Kyr'tsad Mando'ad, a manifesto of the Mandalorian splinter faction known as the Death Watch, mentioned Mandalore the Hammerborn's origins on Kol Atorn. Tor Vizsla, the leader of the movement, is thought to have written the document, though Jango Fett, an opponent of the Death Watch, questioned its validity. The book The Bounty Hunter Code by Jango's son, the bounty hunter Boba Fett, eventually included it.

Behind the scenes

Kol Atorn was first mentioned in the 2013 reference work The Bounty Hunter Code: From the Files of Boba Fett. The StarWars.com Online Companion for the 2009 reference book The Essential Atlas placed the Kol Atorn system, and therefore the astronomical object Kol Atorn, in grid square N-4.
