Land assault trooper

Imperial land assault trooper armor Imperial Army assault troopers, also known as land assault troopers, were soldiers of the Imperial military. They were trained in the operation of various ground-based war machines and were typically deployed alongside surface attack vehicles. A contingent of these troopers was stationed on the first Death Star.

Description

Within the structure of the Imperial Army, land assault troopers had two interconnected roles. The first of these roles was that of mechanized infantry. While undergoing the same training as standard Imperial Army troopers, they received specific instruction regarding the strengths and weaknesses inherent in mechanized combat vehicles. This training in vehicle operation and maintenance enabled them to fulfill their second role, which involved crewing ground vehicles as commanders, gunners, or drivers.

Land assault troopers wore uniforms designed to absorb impacts, along with partial body armor, and helmets equipped with sensors. Additionally, they carried environmental gear. The helmets featured lenses with various tints and vision-enhancing capabilities, tailored to the army's needs.

All Terrain Armored Transports often served as the transport vehicle for Imperial Army assault troopers as they moved into battle.

Behind the scenes

The visual representation of the Imperial land assault trooper originates from unused conceptual artwork for The Empire Strikes Back, depicting a vehicle pilot. Its initial appearance was in the Death Star Technical Companion, accompanied by a brief description of their function. They reappeared in Imperial Entanglements, where their game statistics and equipment were detailed for use in Star Wars Miniatures. However, the Imperial Sourcebook uses the term Assault Trooper to refer to Imperial Army pilots.

It is important to differentiate the land assault trooper from the assault trooper, which is a type of stormtrooper.
