Larr Haverel, an Imperial general, displayed a strong commitment to his troops' well-being while harboring a distrust of non-humans. He found himself assigned to the Star Destroyer Admonitor as the commanding officer of the Imperial Army infantry contingent during Grand Admiral Thrawn's expedition to map the Unknown Regions. He viewed this assignment with considerable displeasure, interpreting it as a form of exile and a political punishment aimed at Thrawn, which unfairly impacted his own career trajectory.
During an intricate strategic game against the warlord Creysis, Thrawn placed several stormtroopers in a precarious situation without fully disclosing his plans to Haverel. As a result, Haverel misinterpreted Thrawn's tactics as errors. When Thrawn appeared to remain passive, Haverel began to suspect incompetence and eventually, treachery. Seeking support to relieve Thrawn of his command and to intervene against Creysis, he approached Dagon Niriz, the captain of the Admonitor. Niriz, while also dissatisfied with Thrawn's performance, hesitated to remove him, viewing such an action as mutiny.
Haverel left after failing to secure Niriz's backing. However, he soon returned, accompanied by six troopers. He entered the bridge and demanded that Thrawn return to his quarters under guard and relinquish command of the ship to Niriz. Thrawn calmly inquired about Haverel's plan to rescue the men on Creysis's ship. Haverel, unable to provide a compelling alternative, insisted that confronting Creysis directly was the only responsible course of action, despite the inherent risks to the men. Thrawn disagreed, and in a pivotal moment, Niriz denied Haverel his support.
Driven by his conviction, Haverel raised his arm, presumably intending to attack or issue an attack order. However, at that precise moment, the opportunity Thrawn had anticipated presented itself, prompting Thrawn and Niriz to take swift action. Haverel could only watch as the admiral efficiently dealt with Creysis. Ultimately, Haverel failed Thrawn's test of loyalty and was subsequently sent back to the capital Coruscant to face a court-martial.
