Lesai, a substance that induced dependence, was a prohibited drug across the entire Galactic Empire.
This substance, Lesai, originated as a specific mold. It thrived on the backs of a particular species of lizard, which could only survive when in proximity to some rather unpleasant plant life. These lizards, along with the plants they depended on, primarily flourished on the planets Zebitrope IV and Zebitrope VIII, although they could be transported to other locations. Typically, the purplish mold was carefully removed using a spatula and then applied to the hollow area at the base of the user's neck. This application resulted in a characteristic purple discoloration, which most users attempted to conceal with flesh-toned powder.
Lesai enabled Humans, and potentially other sentient beings, to forgo sleep. Consequently, it effectively increased the average lifespan by approximately thirty-three percent.
Governmental bodies asserted that lesai induced a transformation in its users, turning them into heartless automatons devoid of emotion or empathy. Nevertheless, this assertion appears questionable, given that Lob Doluff, the Administrator Senior of the Oseon system, was secretly addicted to lesai himself, and deeply desired that it would indeed suppress his emotions so that he could avoid dwelling on matters that caused him emotional distress.
Bohhuah Mutdah, the wealthiest individual in the galaxy, also suffered from lesai addiction.
During 1 ABY, the Bounty Hunters' Guild dispatched a bounty hunter with the mission of assassinating a lesai dealer who had managed to evade capture by planetary authorities.
