Life-bearer

Life-bearers, alternatively called life-witches, were Human females who possessed a unique and uncommon talent: the ability to extend a male's lifespan by a duration of five standard years, after which the male's life would end. These individuals were exclusive to the planet of Leria Kerlsil and incorporated the title "Ver" into their surnames. Due to their sterility, life-bearers were infrequently encountered, arising as a result of genetic or mystical anomalies.

Karia Ver Seryan, identified as a life-witch. Following the male's acceptance of the bond through the act of the blood kiss during the wedding ceremony, the life-bearer would provide "Support" to him for a period spanning three to five years. This "Support" bestowed upon him the vigor and strength characteristic of a younger individual during this time. Furthermore, he would experience a life of comfort and opulence alongside the life-bearer. The provision of Support exacted a toll on the bearer's life energy, and its cessation after the three-to-five-year duration carried the potential risk of death for the bearer. Subsequently, she inherited all of her husband's assets and possessions, which, under normal circumstances, he would have been unable to enjoy due to his likely demise. Life-bearers required a period of recuperation following the death of a husband before entering into another marital union; however, their unique gift necessitated that they provide Support to a husband, as a failure to do so would ultimately lead to their own decline and death after approximately a decade. Their survival depended on sharing the life essences of others, rendering them incapable of long-term existence without a husband to sustain. Through this unique existence, life-bearers were able to live for hundreds of years.

Life-bearers expressed disapproval of being referred to as life-witches, as they viewed their ability as a benevolent gift intended to assist the elderly and infirm, rather than as a means of exploitation.

In the year 18 ABY, Lando Calrissian came close to marrying the life-bearer Karia Ver Seryan during his quest to find a bride alongside Luke Skywalker. It was only due to the timely intervention of C-3PO that he was spared from a drastically shortened lifespan.
