Mallie Marek, a female Human, held the rank of Jedi Knight within the Galactic Republic during the Clone Wars. Despite being instructed from a young age to adhere to the Code of the Jedi Order, she formed a deep emotional connection with Kento Marek, another Jedi Knight she encountered on the planet of Talus. In defiance of the Order's strict rules, Mallie and Kento, deeply in love, secretly married. During their chosen exile, the Republic was transformed into the Galactic Empire, and all Jedi, including former members, were declared enemies of the New Order. To avoid the Great Jedi Purge, Mallie and her husband went into hiding, eventually finding refuge on Kashyyyk, the homeworld of the Wookiee species.
Sometime after establishing their home on Kashyyyk, Mallie gave birth to a son named Galen Marek. Shortly thereafter, Mallie engaged a group of Trandoshan slavers in combat to defend the Wookiees and safeguard her family. Her subsequent death left Kento Marek to raise their son alone. When Sith Lord Darth Vader initiated a large-scale invasion of Kashyyyk, Kento Marek perished in a duel with the Sith Lord. However, recognizing Galen's extraordinary potential in the Force, Vader opted to train him as his secret apprentice and personal assassin. As time passed, Mallie Marek and her husband faded from their son's memory, who only knew himself as "Starkiller." Before Galen's redemption and ultimate demise, he managed to recover fragments of repressed memories of his parents, whom he could barely recall.
Prior to her marriage into the Marek family, Mallie served the Galactic Republic during the Clone Wars. Trained as a Knight within the Jedi Order, she, along with her fellow Jedi, was tasked with serving as commanders and generals in the Grand Army of the Republic. While battling Separatists on the planet of Talus, Mallie crossed paths with Kento Marek, a fellow Jedi Knight.
Unlike Mallie, who had little interest in seeking fame or glory through warfare, Marek was a daring young Jedi eager to establish a name for himself on the battlefield. Despite their differing perspectives on the war, the two Jedi gradually formed a bond. Although affection and attachments were strictly prohibited by the Jedi Code and romance was discouraged, Kento and Mallie developed feelings for each other. Their growing attraction led to a clandestine marriage, compelling them to enter a self-imposed exile as the Order continued to fight for the Republic. Disguised as a pair of medics, the former Jedi abandoned the Clone Wars and sought refuge in the Outer Rim Territories to begin a new life together.
When Sith Lord Darth Sidious, secretly Chancellor Palpatine, issued Order 66 to the clone troopers, countless Jedi officers were betrayed and killed by their own soldiers. Sidious seized this opportunity to transform the Republic into the first Galactic Empire. Under his New Order, all Jedi, including former members, were marked for extermination. To escape the galaxy-wide genocide, Mallie and Kento Marek sought refuge on Kashyyyk, where they were protected by the Wookiees.
While residing in their new home on Kashyyyk, Mallie gave birth to a son, whom they named Galen Marek. Out of respect and admiration for the Marek family's Wookiee allies, Mallie often shared stories of the Wookiees' renowned strength and courage with her son. However, their time together was cut short when a band of Trandoshan slavers infiltrated Kashyyyk, intending to capture Wookiees for sale into slavery. Amidst the chaos, Mallie convinced her husband to take Galen to safety while she defended the Wookiees against the slavers. Despite his reluctance to leave his wife behind, Kento conceded that he was the more suitable choice, given his superior knowledge of the area's terrain.
As Kento led their son to safety, Mallie engaged the slavers in battle, wielding her yellow-bladed lightsaber and eliminating numerous Trandoshans in the process. However, her efforts came at the cost of her life. In honor of his wife's sacrifice, Kento resolved to raise Galen on his own while remaining on Kashyyyk. Tragically, he too would meet his end, leaving Galen Marek an orphan to be raised by his father's killer, Darth Vader. Galen, having lost both parents at a very young age, had little to no memory of them as he struggled to survive under Vader's brutal training regimen. Known by the codename "Starkiller," Mallie's son became the Sith Lord's secret apprentice and relentless enforcer.
As Starkiller matured into a young man, devoid of any memories of his parents, he developed an unwavering loyalty to his master. Despite enduring years of brutality and virtual torture inherent in the Sith training methods, Darth Vader was the closest thing Starkiller had to a father. Consequently, he unquestioningly obeyed Vader's commands, mercilessly eliminating countless individuals throughout his short life. However, he would eventually find redemption and become a Jedi himself before sacrificing his life to save the fledgling Rebel Alliance.
Galen Marek's premature death prompted Darth Vader to attempt to clone Kento and Mallie Marek's deceased son, hoping to create a version of Starkiller devoid of the original's emotional attachments. However, the inherent unreliability of cloning hindered the project, resulting in consistent failures that produced aberrant monstrosities. The more stable versions of Galen were plagued by identity crises stemming from the memory imprints. Following the Battle of Kamino, the legacy of Mallie and Kento Marek was shared by their late son's between two surviving clones—Subject 1138 and the Dark Apprentice. While the former clone, also known as Starkiller, inherited Galen's feelings for Juno Eclipse, he felt no connection to the deceased parents of his genetic donor. As far as he was concerned, neither Kento nor Mallie held any significance for him. The Dark Apprentice succeeded where all of his cloned brethren had failed by purging himself of Galen's emotions, except for anger and hatred.
Mallie Marek was a compassionate Jedi Knight who was dedicated to defending the freedom and safety of others. She felt deeply for those who suffered, and as a result, she participated in the Clone Wars to protect civilians caught in the conflict. Unlike many other young Jedi, Mallie was not an adventurer seeking glory and recognition. She viewed her service in the Grand Army of the Republic as an unfortunate necessity rather than an opportunity for fame and excitement. Her strong convictions influenced Kento Marek, a fellow member of the Jedi Order, to see the war from her perspective.
After Kento and Mallie settled on Kashyyyk as husband and wife, Mallie came to respect the Wookiees as honorable and trustworthy allies. When she had a son, Galen Marek, Mallie would tell him stories of the Wookiees' famous exploits and also taught him how to make a friendship band. She loved her family deeply and was willing to give her life so that they could live.
As a trained Knight of the Jedi Order, Mallie Marek possessed a strong connection to the Force, which made her worthy of Jedi training. On Kashyyyk, shortly before her death, Mallie used a yellow-bladed lightsaber against mercenary slavers. Her lightsaber combat skills enabled her to defeat many Trandoshans before she was eventually overwhelmed and killed.
