Mallop, a Flight Commander within the Imperial Navy and a TIE pilot, operated a TIE/LN starfighter around 3 ABY. During that year, after the Galactic Empire had occupied the planet of Bespin, Mallop was among the TIE pilots on patrol. These pilots escorted the Firespray-31-class patrol and attack craft Slave I, piloted by the bounty hunter Boba Fett, as it departed. Shortly after, Mallop and his fellow pilots received orders to pursue the YT-1300 light freighter Millennium Falcon, which was attempting to escape Imperial forces on Bespin.
As a Flight Commander in the Imperial Navy, Mallop was a TIE pilot. He piloted a TIE/LN starfighter, with Flight Lieutenant Rignik reporting to him. In 3 ABY, the Galactic Empire occupied the planet Bespin with the objective of capturing the Alliance to Restore the Republic's YT-1300 light freighter known as the Millennium Falcon. When Boba Fett, the bounty hunter who had assisted the Empire during the occupation of Bespin, departed aboard his Firespray-31-class patrol and attack craft named Slave I, Mallop was among the four pilots of TIE/LN starfighters—initially on a standard patrol—who approached Slave I as it headed towards the Imperial II-class Star Destroyer Avenger orbiting Bespin.

Fett cautioned the TIE/LN starfighters to reduce their speed as they accelerated to match that of Slave I. Mallop and the other TIE pilots maintained their pursuit of Slave I, remaining at maximum range, until the latter ship entered hyperspace. However, their return to routine patrols was short-lived as they received new orders to intercept the Millennium Falcon as it approached from Bespin. When Rignik expressed his apprehension regarding the Falcon's history during the Battle of Yavin and within the Hoth asteroid field, Mallop reprimanded him, stating that Rignik would face disciplinary action upon their return. Ultimately, it was TIE/LN starfighters from the Imperial Obsidian Squadron that chased the Falcon out of Bespin and into space, but the freighter successfully evaded Imperial capture.
Mallop and his fellow TIE pilots felt a sense of relief when Boba Fett's Slave I entered hyperspace, ending their escort duty. When Rignik brought up the Millennium Falcon's past, Mallop initially yelled at him to be quiet, before clarifying that he intended to order Rignik to maintain silence on the TIE pilots' communication channels. In a private message to Rignik, Mallop further stated that Rignik would be written up upon their return.
Michael Stern, the author, conceived the character of Mallop for "Dark Voyage to Tatooine," a story featured in Galaxy Guide 5: Return of the Jedi, a roleplaying sourcebook by West End Games published in 1990.
