They tasked him with modifying the hyperdrive of their YT-1300 light freighter, and Maniac complied. However, he enhanced the hyperdrive to its absolute limit by adding novel alterations. Subsequently, Maniac secured a position as a mechanic at Bolabo's Garage located on Byblos. During his tenure there, he customized the droid known as R2-X0, bestowing upon it the moniker "Patchwork."
Maniac possessed a wild-eyed expression, a grin revealing pointed teeth, and a persistent, uncontrollable giggle. His favored pastime was modifying droids, and he also enjoyed tackling minor electronic conundrums. General Airen Cracken of the Alliance to Restore the Republic held the opinion that Maniac was unsettling.
