Maximilian Veers' family

The Human male named Maximilian Veers was part of a family unit.

History

When the Human male who would be known as Maximilian Veers was born on the world of Denon, his family already possessed a substantial history of service in the military, but lacked significant political connections. Veers went to the Imperial Academy and, because of his actions during the Culroon III insurrection, he was promoted to the military rank of major within the Imperial Army. Shortly thereafter, sometime between 19 BBY and 9 BBY, Veers entered into marriage with a woman, and they had a single son, Zevulon Veers. This family mirrored the perfect loyal Imperial family as depicted in propaganda. Maximilian's wife passed away from an uncommon illness while the family was on vacation. Subsequently, Maximilian dedicated himself to his work and encouraged his son to enlist in the army as a tribute to her memory. Maximilian was a stern figure, prioritizing discipline over affection as a father, and Zevulon questioned the Empire's principles throughout his education.

Maximilian advanced to the rank of general and was assigned to Death Squadron, which was the personal fleet of the Sith Lord Darth Vader. The family gained notoriety following Maximilian's involvement in the Imperial triumph over the Alliance to Restore the Republic during the Battle of Hoth, a key event in the Galactic Civil War. Maximilian sustained serious leg injuries during the battle, but he declined cybernetic enhancements due to cultural biases against cyborgs, opting instead to use a repulsorlift carriage for mobility. The Imperial propaganda machine celebrated Maximilian as a model citizen: a devoted widower raising his son to follow his example. Maximilian and Zevulon spent a brief period of leave together, attending celebrations that featured speeches praising the Empire and condemning the Rebellion.

A few weeks later, Zevulon defected to the Alliance during a routine political operation, rescuing a Rebel librarian after he had been tortured by his commanding officer, Ivo Laibach. Zevulon's defection proved beneficial to the Alliance, as he was a skilled commander, and it also caused considerable embarrassment to his father's career. Maximilian enjoyed the prestige he gained after Hoth for several months until he discovered the truth about Zevulon's decision; he would have preferred his son's death. Zevulon never saw or heard from his father again after his defection.

Maximilian continued his military career, and was on a planetary mission when Emperor Palpatine and Vader died during the Battle of Endor in 4 ABY, destabilizing the Empire. The general attempted to find a powerful warlord to align himself with, but many of the surviving Imperials harbored resentment towards Vader and treated Veers poorly because of his association with him. He eventually joined Palpatine's resurrected Dark Empire. Zevulon continued to hope that his family and father would reject the Empire. By the time of the Battle of Balmorra in 10 ABY, Maximilian held the rank of captain within the Dark Empire. By this point, he had lost his drive and recklessly threw himself into the front lines, where he was killed by a dozen SD-10 battle droids.
