Behind the scenes
The debut of this specific type of face covering occurred in the 2016 Anthology movie Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. The concept art for this mask, labeled "Jedha Alien G0021," created by Adam Brockbank, is showcased in the book The Art of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story that accompanies the film. A 2018 card within Topps' Star Wars: Card Trader mobile game depicts two characters wearing these coverings, and is named "Chrome Faces – Rogue One – Shadow Portraits," with the wearers referred to as "Chrome Faces."
