MerenData

MerenData functioned as a corporation specializing in both data security and espionage activities. The company gained prominence primarily due to its espionage droids, which were based on the design of 3PO protocol droids. Additionally, they were known for their capabilities in network security and slice investigations. MerenData held the distinction of being one of the original non-voting contributing sponsors for the Corporate Sector Authority.

Initially, MerenData provided support to the Galactic Empire and refrained from conducting business with the New Republic. However, a shift occurred when the company replaced its board members, leading to the establishment of connections with the New Republic and its respective markets.

History

MerenData's establishment predates 3956 BBY, as evidenced by the release of the S6-series security/maintenance droid and the K-X12 probe droid. These droids achieved significant popularity among both the Sith Empire and the general civilian population. Around the same time that Cybot Galactica introduced its successful 3PO-series, MerenData offered a conversion package, enabling the transformation of a 3PO droid into an espionage droid.

During the era of the Separatist Crisis, MerenData launched its own investigation into Pro-Separatist propaganda that had surfaced on the IGBC's data server. This involved slicing into the system to eliminate the propaganda. Their findings indicated that the propaganda had been inserted by well-funded slicers, a conclusion that differed from the assessment made by the Senate Bureau of Intelligence.

MerenData sponsored articles featured on Holonet News during the Separatist Crisis. Following a slicing incident targeting the free edition, Holonet News implemented MerenData's Socketguards for enhanced security.

At an unspecified point in time, MerenData introduced its A4 laboratory assistant droid, which initially enjoyed considerable success. However, problems arose when doctors began promoting these droids to the position of chief surgeon. The droids, lacking an advanced independent decision module, began replacing healthy body parts with cybernetics. This error marked the beginning of a series of setbacks for the company. During the decline of the Galactic Republic, MerenData released the flawed EV-series supervisor droid, which was mistakenly equipped with an MDF motivator, a module typically used in torture droids. Although MerenData recalled the EV droids, the damage had already been done. This blunder had long-lasting consequences from which MerenData never fully recovered. The company continued to market droids, such as the V-series droid supervisor and GD16-series pilot droid, to the Galactic Empire, but by this point, MerenData's reputation had suffered significantly.
