K-X12 probe droid

The MerenData KX-12 probe droid was a versatile droid type frequently deployed circa 3956 BBY and 3951 BBY. Although marketed by its creators as a probe droid, it became well-known for its flexible nature. This non-humanoid model possessed a red photoreceptor, three multi-jointed limbs ending in claw-like graspers, a blaster weapon, and a repulsorlift propulsion system.

Despite being designated a probe droid, the KX-12's design allowed it to fulfill a broad spectrum of functions. MerenData claimed the blaster attachment was for clearing obstructions, but its destructive capability, combined with its ability to float into hazardous zones, enabled it to function as a security unit, a patrol unit, a medical assistant, a hunter, a utility assistant, or even a battle droid.

Subsequently, numerous KX-12 units were reprogrammed for clandestine espionage operations. They could be placed within modified projectile casings and launched towards an enemy world, with the casing exploding prior to impact, and the droid using its repulsorlift to decelerate and survive the landing. They served as security units within the Peragus Mining Facility, in Khoonda, and on Tatooine. Goto modified one to act as a torture droid aboard his yacht, and Davik Kang similarly employed the droid for interrogation purposes.
