Peragus Mining Facility

The Peragus Mining Facility served as the sole provider of engine fuel suitable for shipping to the Kwymar sector. Located within the Peragus asteroid field, it represented the second attempt to extract Peragian fuel, following a prior incident that nearly obliterated the planet Peragus II; the facility itself was an Asteroid. G0-T0 may have supported this project during negotiations related to the Telosian restoration efforts, seeking to steer the Republic toward Peragus's shipping fuel instead of procuring it from the Hutts, a move he considered a disastrous business choice. Up until its sabotage and destruction during the Skirmish at Peragus II in 3951 BBY, when Darth Sion pursued Meetra Surik aboard the Republic warship Harbinger, Citadel Station primarily obtained its fuel from this location.

Sabotage

The Ebon Hawk docking with the Peragus Mining Facility.

The mining facility fell victim to sabotage orchestrated by an HK-50 Jedi hunter who encountered Meetra Surik and infiltrated the Ebon Hawk. Kreia had taken the former Jedi there after the assassin droid drugged her during a diplomatic mission to Telos IV aboard the Harbinger. When the freighter docked at the station for vital repairs, both Jedi were unconscious and required medical assistance. The administrator of the facility dispatched them to the medical bay, cataloged and secured the ship's cargo, and assigned the droid crew to maintenance. Despite HK-50's guise as a simple protocol droid, he gained permission to collaborate with the maintenance officer on droid repairs. Subsequently, he endeavored to gather comprehensive knowledge of security protocols, personnel details, and any information that could grant him control over the facility. He subtly undermined facility operations by manipulating mining droid communication routines and recognition sensors to engineer accidents, prompting all units to be brought in for maintenance. He also prematurely detonated sonic charges, resulting in injuries to several miners. Furthermore, he utilized the maintenance station to prescribe a sedative treatment for all patients in the med bay, administering a dosage intended to prevent Meetra from awakening while proving fatal to the miners.

In the meantime, despite the administrator's attempts at secrecy, word of Meetra's Jedi status spread, originating from a miner who had served alongside her during the Battle of Malachor V. Certain miners, unable to resist the opportunity to capitalize on Meetra's unconscious state, plotted to claim the bounty placed on live Jedi by the Exchange. Defying the orders of the facility's leaders, Coorta and his mining crew persisted in their scheme, with HK-50 joining their ranks in hopes of securing a means of escape from the station. By mimicking the maintenance officer's voice through a comlink, HK-50 asserted that he could conceal their actions and prevent the Republic from being alerted if they provided transportation. Coorta then contacted a smuggler to transport Meetra to Nar Shaddaa, but it remains uncertain whether the smuggler had arrived at the facility by the time Meetra regained consciousness.

HK-50 proceeded to disable the facility by infiltrating the fuel depot computers, fabricating a fictitious fuel leak, and strategically deploying force fields to impede access to the hangar bay. Ultimately, detonations were triggered within isolated gas pockets deep within the mining tunnels, leading to a lockdown that confined the miners to emergency sections of the station, severing their communication lines and control over the facility. The surviving miners attempted to transmit a signal to the administration level using a holo-transmitter in order to lift the lockdown, but by that point, HK-50 had disconnected the administration console from the main hub. The miners continued to utilize the transmitter as a relay to broadcast distress signals beyond the Peragus facility until they succumbed to the escalating levels of toxic fumes within the ventilation system.

Destruction of the facility

Although the Peragus administrator presumed Kreia to be deceased and consigned her to the morgue, she was actually in a Hibernation trance. From this state, she unconsciously reached out to Meetra, rousing her from her kolto tank. The two convened, and Kreia implored Meetra to locate the Ebon Hawk so they could evade the disturbances Kreia had detected during their slumber. As Meetra battled her way through hostile mining droids, she explored the facility, gradually recovering her Force sensitivity under Kreia's tutelage. She discovered Atton Rand confined within a Force cage on the administration level and accepted his remote assistance through the mining tunnels as she unsuccessfully sought an alternative route to the hangar. Eventually, the Harbinger, commanded by Darth Sion and his Sith assassins, docked with the station, opening the airlock on a docking bridge. Meetra, Atton, and Kreia united and were compelled to confront and eliminate HK-50, who made a final attempt to claim Meetra's bounty, before they could board the Republic vessel.

Onboard, they obtained the necessary orbital drift charts from the ship's navicomputer and headed for the engine deck, battling their way through cloaked Sith Assassins. Before they could escape, Darth Sion intercepted the trio, and Kreia remained behind to stall him. During their brief but decisive duel, Sion severed Kreia's hand but spared her life. She, Meetra, Atton, and T3-M4—who had been incapacitated by HK-50 but was later discovered in the fuel line leading to the hangar—barely reached the Ebon Hawk as they departed with Sith troopers in pursuit. With T3-M4 serving as an astrogation system, the group initiated a jump to hyperspace in an effort to evade the Harbinger—but not before the warship fired upon an asteroid, triggering a series of explosions that obliterated the facility and the entire asteroid field.

Aftermath

In the aftermath of both the Mandalorian Wars and the Jedi Civil War, the loss of the Peragian fuel source initiated a chain of events that, according to G0-T0's projections, would lead to the complete downfall of the Republic within a standard month's duration. The fate of the Telosian Restoration Project—which depended on fuel from Peragus to maintain Citadel Station in orbit—was intertwined with that of twenty other worlds. Without them, the Republic would forfeit the essential infrastructures required for its survival. Upon her arrival on Telos, Meetra was placed under house arrest pending the outcome of an investigation by the Telosian government. However, logs recovered from the facility's wreckage indicated that the miners perished due to sabotage and that the Harbinger was indeed present and responsible for the station's destruction.

Administration level

The administration level of the facility.

Serving as the primary floor and operational hub of the facility, the administration level housed its med bay, morgue, communications consoles, prison, and turbolifts connecting to the dormitories and mining tunnels. Upon Meetra Surik's arrival at the facility, she was placed in a kolto tank within the med bay, marking the starting point of her exploration. Meetra and Atton Rand utilized a console on the administration level to contact T3-M4, instructing him to unlock an emergency hatch leading to the mining tunnels. Later, Meetra returned to the administration level alongside Kreia and Atton, where they destroyed HK-50 and boarded the Harbinger.

Mining tunnels

The mining tunnels of the facility.

These tunnels served as the extraction site for Peragus fuel, which was then piped up to the fuel depot. Upon entering the mining tunnels via the turbolift from the administration level, Meetra Surik was assailed by mining droids, reprogrammed by HK-50 to target all organics. From this point, Meetra proceeded to the fuel depot.

Fuel depot

The fuel depot of the facility.

The fuel depot served as the point where fuel pipes extended to the exterior of the asteroid, connecting to the freighters intended to transport the shipments. The Peragus maintenance officer barricaded himself here after the droid attacks commenced. T3-M4 entered the fuel depot in an attempt to reach a console that could unlock an emergency hatch on the administration level, providing Meetra Surik with access to the mining tunnels, but was soon disabled by HK-50. When Meetra entered the depot through the mining tunnels, force fields erected by HK-50 prevented her from reaching the hangar bay and the Ebon Hawk, compelling her to don a space suit and traverse the asteroid's surface to reach the dormitory airlock.

Exterior

The exterior of the facility.

Situated outside the administration level, the exterior of the facility featured a platform in the vacuum of space that facilitated transport between the fuel depot and the dormitories. As Meetra utilized this platform to reach the dormitories, the Harbinger, carrying Darth Sion, docked at the facility.

Dormitories

The dormitories of the facility.

Located beneath the Peragus Mining Facility's administration level, the dormitories served as the miners' living quarters and dining area. Upon arriving at the dormitories in her attempts to escape the facility, Meetra Surik discovered that many of the miners, including Coorta, had been trapped and killed by mining droids or toxic gases. Meetra successfully escaped the dormitories by using a console that unlocked the turbolift to the administration level. The mess hall was also located here.

Hangar bay

The hangar bay of the facility.

Positioned adjacent to the fuel depot, the hangar bay served as the docking point for the Ebon Hawk within the facility. Upon being contacted by Meetra, T3-M4 traversed between this location and the fuel depot to establish a route for Meetra to reach the ship. When Meetra, Atton Rand, Kreia, and T3-M4 finally arrived at the hangar bay, they were able to escape the facility aboard the Ebon Hawk.

Mining facility crew

Clockwise from top to bottom: Coorta, Security Officer, Sien, Maintenance Officer, Dock Officer, Medical Officer, Administrator.

By the time of Meetra's arrival, the Peragus Mining Facility had a crew of over one hundred and fifty individuals, all of whom were murdered by mining droids or succumbed to gassing during the emergency lockdown. As the Exile never encountered the miners alive, her sole knowledge of them stemmed from holorecords and datapads.

Mining facility droids

The facility used a large number of droids in its operations. These droids would later come under the command of HK-50 as he used them to murder the miners and prevent Meetra Surik's escape.

Behind the scenes

Peragus Mining Facility

During the demo of Knights of the Old Republic II presented by Obsidian Entertainment at the Electronic Entertainment Expo, the Peragus Mining Facility was depicted as a network of mining tunnels situated beneath the surface of Telos IV. Mira, a bounty hunter whom the player encounters on Nar Shaddaa, was originally portrayed as a trapped miner in the demo.

A non-canonical option exists within the game, allowing Meetra Surik to instruct Atton Rand to deliberately fire upon an asteroid as they evade the Harbinger's gunfire, an idea proposed by Kreia. The resulting explosion triggers a chain reaction akin to that caused by the Harbinger's weapons striking the asteroid, introducing an alternate cutscene to the menu list. Furthermore, certain dialogue is altered, as the Exile cannot truthfully assert innocence when accused of destroying the Peragus Mining Facility following that decision.
