Identichip
Bail Organa's identity tag
Identichips, also known by various names like identity chit, identi-tab, identicard, ID card, passport chip, microtag, or identity tag, were compact devices designed for easy attachment to clothing or carrying, facilitating use with standard card readers.
History
Identi-tabs commonly featured a hologram representing the owner's likeness. These served as an additional security measure implemented by Supreme Chancellor Palpatine in response to the escalating threat of conflict on Coruscant. It was known that Vannix Intelligence utilized identichips that had unique seals. During the Galactic Empire's rule, all inhabitants were obligated to carry some form of identification, a requirement that individuals like Senator Bail Organa considered needless and bothersome. Bail was compelled to present his identity tag to a skeptical Senate Guard as he attempted to board his consular ship, the Tantive IV.
Certain identichips included special markings that granted the holder a certain level of legal protection. For instance, Aurra Sing possessed an identichip that gave her first degree civilian immunity, the highest level of privilege available to a civilian, while working for Darth Vader during the early Imperial era.
Identicard
Identicards represented a type of personalized datacard that saw use during the Yuuzhan Vong War period. These cards stored a significant amount of personal data, including both physical and medical information. Forging identities using these cards was relatively straightforward, a vulnerability exploited by criminals and con artists during the conflict with the Yuuzhan Vong.
