Mission 7: Cutting the Cord

title: Mission 7: Cutting the Cord

Mission 7: Cutting the Cord represents the seventh scenario focused on starfighter combat. It was designed for the Star Wars: X-Wing Miniatures Game and initially released as a rules addition within the Imperial Aces Expansion Pack.

Storyline Overview

The Rebel Alliance has received intelligence pointing towards a novel flight system that significantly improves a standard starfighter's performance. Surveillance imagery from concealed Imperial installations indicates that the prototype's operation relies on short-distance transmissions from these buildings. Rebel Command has deployed a strike force tasked with eliminating these installations. Should the prototype achieve extended operational range, Rebel starfighters will forfeit their advantage in space combat indefinitely.

Setting Up the Mission

Rebel Forces: 110 Squad Points; The Rebel player is required to designate two operatives (using tracking tokens) by assigning them to a single ship card they control.

Imperial Forces: 100 Squad Points; The Imperial player must deploy a ship that is not unique as the designated PROTOTYPE, and they must attach the prototype ID token to the selected ship.

The Imperial player is responsible for placing six asteroid tokens within the designated play area. Each asteroid must be positioned within Range 1-2 of at least one other asteroid, ensuring no overlaps occur, and they must be kept outside Range 1 of any edge. Subsequently, the Imperial player privately examines each function token and places them facedown on separate asteroids.

Following this, the Rebel player is allowed to relocate up to three asteroids to any location within Range 1 of their initial placements. The Rebel player then selects which side of the play area will be their designated edge. The Imperial player's edge is the side opposite the Rebel's chosen edge.

The Imperial player then positions their ships anywhere within the play area, provided they are not within Range 1-3 of the Rebel edge. The Rebel player then positions their ships within Range 1-2 of their designated edge of the play area. The Rebel player takes the first turn.

Mission Victory Conditions

The Rebels achieve victory by successfully destroying the prototype ship.

The Empire secures victory by eliminating all Rebel ships.
