The conflict known as the Mission to Goratak III occurred in the early stages of the Galactic Civil War, pitting forces of the Alliance to Restore the Republic against those of the Galactic Empire. The mission's objective was the acquisition of an Imperial I2-CG droid. This droid possessed crucial data pertaining to Rebel starfighter manufacturing activities located on Tar Morden. Imperial Intelligence had compiled this information and dispatched it to the Intelligence Sector HQ via a Plexus Droid Vessel. However, Rebels intercepted the vessel during its journey, resulting in the ship's self-destruction after the droid was ejected onto the surface of the planet Goratak III.
The Rebel strike force consisted of squads such as Safari One, Red Smoke, and the Buzz Boys (which included the young SpecOps fighter Jodo Kast), along with Rebel allies Grindol Maal and the Revwien Thuwisten Wuwuhuul. The battle took place in the Crystal Forests, where they faced opposition from the skilled Mandalorian bounty hunter [Feskitt Bobb], who commanded two units of snowtroopers and received assistance from several other, less experienced bounty hunters.
During the battle, Kast used his blaster to eliminate Bobb, mistakenly identifying him as Boba Fett. This event served as an inspiration for Kast, who subsequently departed from Alliance Special Operations, obtained his own set of Mandalorian armor, and embarked on a career as a bounty hunter.
