Morjanssik

Morjanssik existed as a city located in the southern portion of the water world of the Mon Calamari species.

History

The city of Morjanssik was constructed around 21 BBY, representing an endeavor by the Quarren to establish a contemporary urban center independently, without the assistance of the Mon Calamari. During the initial period of the Galactic Civil War, the populace comprised 75,000 Quarren, accompanied by only a few hundred Mon Calamari, and a negligible number of individuals from other planets.

Morjanssik functioned as a multi-tiered, floating metropolis, situated approximately two hundred kilometers away from any significant landmass. The primary dome of the city was constructed over an oceanic trench that reached a depth of one kilometer. The underwater farium mines located within the trench served as the economic foundation of the city. During the Galactic Civil War, the farium obtained from these mines played a crucial role in the Alliance to Restore the Republic's capability to produce starships at the Mon Calamari Shipyards.

The governing structure of Morjanssik consisted of a Chief Manager (or Chief Executive), elected for terms lasting two years, alongside a five-member Oversight Committee, whose members were elected for five-year terms. Nearly all governmental departments, including the representative to the planetary government of Mon Calamari, were under the authority of the Chief Manager. The sole exception was the Oversight Committee, which convened weekly to assess the Chief Manager's policies. The Oversight Committee possessed the authority to initiate a Vote of No Confidence among the entire Morjanssik electorate if they were dissatisfied with the Chief Manager. All adult Quarren, with the exception of those convicted of serious offenses, were eligible to participate in voting. Moren Chonk held the position of Chief Manager during the early years of the Galactic Civil War, supported by Assistant Manager Kelmut Wolg and advised by the Mon Calamari Alliance representative Kalbrac.

Similar to numerous rapidly growing mining towns, Morjanssik faced challenges related to criminal activity. While a significant portion of crimes stemmed from Quarren miners indulging excessively on payday, some were associated with organized black market operations, unlawful gambling activities, or drugs. Although these organized criminal elements generally avoided violence, street gangs operating in the lower districts frequently harassed residents or engaged in violent conflicts over territory.
