Mount Etna

The world known as Mustafar. The largest active volcano in Europe, Mount Etna, can be found in Sicily, Italy. Even though filming did not occur on location, digital scouting was done there in order to get plate photography. These photos were used as backdrops for the battle between Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker on Mustafar in the movie Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith. As luck would have it, Etna had an eruption while they were filming. Because of this, Lucas dispatched a crew to film the flowing lava for use as dynamic backgrounds.
