The New Imperial Guard comprised a team of distinguished Force-sensitives who acted as the personal protectors of Darth Malgus, who was the emperor of the New Empire. Under the command of the Chagrian Chondrus Berani, this Guard incorporated aliens within its membership. Donning crimson and black armor, they employed both lightsabers and electrostaffs in combat. During the Battle of Ilum, the New Guard engaged in combat to shield their master when a hostile strike team infiltrated the Emperor's Fortress. However, Berani, along with numerous Guardsmen, perished before the strike force gained entry to the throne room. Subsequently, Malgus disbanded the Guard, preferring to confront his adversaries independently. The New Empire met its end with the destruction of the space station and the seeming demise of Malgus.
