Biography
Duff also secured a minor role in George Lucas's 1980 box-office hit, Star Wars: Episode V The Empire Strikes Back; this role is considered a career highlight for him. He played Echo Base Rebel officer Jeroen Webb on the icy planet Hoth. Duff's appearance is brief and without any spoken lines, during the part of the film where Harrison Ford (Han Solo) leaves the base riding a tauntaun to search for the missing Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker, despite objections from other personnel. In The Empire Strikes Back, Duff is credited along with four other actors, simply as one of several "Other Officers" within the Rebel Forces. Because of this, there may be some uncertainty regarding which character Duff actually plays in the movie. In fact, many Star Wars fan websites, including the now-defunct The Completely Unofficial Star Wars Encyclopedia by Star Wars author Bob Vitas, incorrectly state that Duff played Rebel officer Trey Callum, a role actually performed by stuntman Bob Anderson. Lucasfilm officially confirmed Duff's role as Jeroen Webb in the 2010 publication The Making of The Empire Strikes Back.
The canon name and backstory of Duff's character, Jeroen Webb, were first established by Decipher, Inc. in their 1996 Hoth Limited expansion for the Star Wars Customizable Card Game.
