"Ops" designated the central operational hub within the New Republic base situated on the planet of Altyr V. In the year 10 ABY, Imperial soldiers landed on the planet as part of Operation Shadow Hand. The base's commanding figures—a commander, Jedi Kyle Katarn alongside his apprentice Mara Jade, and a New Republic officer—gathered at the Ops center to deliberate on the Imperial forces' plan. Katarn made the decision to locate and commandeer an Imperial shuttle for use against the Empire before heading to a hangar. Shortly after, he was separated from Ops, at which point Imperial forces launched a direct assault, breaching a wall to gain entry. Katarn later made his way back to Ops to assist the officer in defending against the Imperials, while the commander and Jade chose to move to a different location within the base. Soon after, Katarn departed Ops, leaving the officer to continue the defense. Ultimately, the Imperial assault was held off for a sufficient duration, enabling the New Republic troops to evacuate the planet before a larger fleet of ships could arrive for support.
