Orn Belden

A male senator from Bakura named Orn Belden served in the Bakuran Senate. He had held this position since before the Galactic Empire's formation. He represented the Bakur RepulsorCorp in the Senate, an organization vital to Bakura's primary export industry. At the time of the Bakura Incident, he was 164 years old.

Biography

Orn, a member of the Belden family, was likely among the original settlers of Bakura from the Bakur Mining Corporation. He was known to be courageous and tall.

He married Eppie Antruse in 97 BBY, the same year a droid rebellion occurred on Bakura. Later, they had one child, Roviden. Orn, along with his wife and son, sympathized with the Rebel Alliance during the Galactic Civil War, though he did not provide any actual support.

Consequently, when the Galactic Empire occupied Bakura in 1 ABY, his son was executed, and his wife was also scheduled for execution. However, he persuaded Governor Wilek Nereus to spare her life by sacrificing his voice box. Nereus, however, punished Eppie by implanting a parasite that induced senility into her brain.

By the time the Empire occupied Bakura, he had risen to the position of Senior Senator, despite needing a voice amplifier to speak and having two prosthetic hearts. Belden was the most outspoken among the few Bakuran senators who opposed the Imperial governor's actions. Belden, along with Prime Minister Yeorg Captison, secretly managed the underground resistance, which consisted of only ten cells, each with about ten members.

Belden, Captison, and Rebel ambassador Leia Organa were arrested due to the plan to activate these resistance cells against the occupying forces during the Battle of Bakura. The shock proved fatal for the elderly Belden, who died in captivity from a cerebral hemorrhage that would have otherwise been easily treated.

The rebel cells still rose up, led by the now-cured Eppie, and both Organa and Captison, as well as the planet itself, were liberated from Imperial control.
