The Otoh Gunga Zoological Research Facility, also called the Otoh Gunga Municipal Zoo, functioned as both a zoo and a laboratory complex situated within the Gungan settlement of Otoh Gunga.
Constructed within a hydrostatic bubble connected to the other buildings of the submerged city of Otoh Gunga, the Zoological Research Facility, or ZRF, served as a location for observing and researching wildlife. Predominantly showcasing marine life native to the swamps and deep-sea trenches of Naboo, the zoo additionally housed land-based creatures and bird species. Each type of animal resided in a specialized enclosure, complete with a small holodisplay offering details about the animal, enabling visitors to understand and picture its natural behaviors.
Overseen by skilled caretakers, like Yr'Apaly Omin, the ZRF was a protected zone equipped with its own security measures. Housing a research center dedicated to diverse scientific explorations, the ZRF bustled with marine scientists, biologists, and researchers daily.
Prior to the Invasion of Naboo, Jar Jar Binks inadvertently shut down half of the enclosures holding the animals. This released numerous creatures from the zoo into the city, resulting in significant disruption and angering Boss Rugor Nass, who then condemned Binks to a six-month sentence of strenuous work at the Quarry penal colony.
