The Quarry penal colony functioned as a correctional facility for the Gungan people. It seems that forced labor was a component of the punishments given at this location. Following the incident where Jar Jar Binks mistakenly caused approximately 50% of the creatures held at the Otoh Gunga zoo to break free, Boss Rugor Nass initially gave him a six-month sentence of hard labor at the Quarry penal colony; however, this sentence was eventually reduced.
