Outer Rim Oreworks Market

The Outer Rim Oreworks Market, also known as the ORO Market, functioned as a supply depot for workers and was situated on the planet of Apatros. Back in 1003 BBY, it stood alone as the sole retail establishment on Apatros.

Description

Located in the colony of the same name on the Outer Rim planet Apatros, the Outer Rim Oreworks Market, or ORO, prominently displayed its operational hours on a black-and-white sign affixed to the building's exterior wall. The ORO Market's inventory was limited to essential items, primarily catering to the needs of miners, and all goods were marked up significantly. While store credit was an option for customers, it was essentially an advance on their future earnings, burdened by exorbitant interest rates imposed by ORO. Consequently, workers often found themselves compelled to work additional shifts in the company's cortosis mines on Apatros to alleviate the mounting debt incurred through the use of store credit.

History

In 1003 BBY, the Outer Rim Oreworks Company both owned and ran the store, which was the only one on Apatros. The building that housed the store had previously served as a barracks, but it had been repurposed to provide supplies for the workers. The former shower area was transformed into a secure storage space, and the bunks were replaced with shelving units.

Behind the scenes

The ORO Market received a mention in Darth Bane: Path of Destruction, a novel by Drew Karpyshyn that launched the Star Wars: Darth Bane Trilogy in 2006.
