P4-99 functioned as an astromech droid for the Resistance as they fought a war against the First Order. When the Resistance launched their attack targeting Starkiller Base, P4-99 occupied the astromech slot of the T-70 X-wing starfighter piloted by Sara Bel-Sun. Bel-Sun and P4-99 both died during this engagement.
