During his tenure as the senator representing Naboo, Sheev Palpatine maintained a series of rooms known as Palpatine's apartment. This suite was situated on the higher floors of 500 Republica, a building located within the Senate District of Galactic City on the planet Coruscant. Padmé Amidala, the queen of Naboo, resided in this apartment as Palpatine's guest when the Invasion of Naboo occurred.

Located on the upper stories of 500 Republica, the most prestigious residential building in the Senate District on the planet Coruscant, was an apartment belonging to Senator Sheev Palpatine of Naboo. It provided a view of Galactic City. Although it had impressive views, the apartment was relatively modest compared to those of other members of the Galactic Senate. Palpatine decorated the apartment in various shades of red, including unusual art objects, and equipped it with concealed security and surveillance systems.

Upon his arrival to Coruscant, Senator Palpatine escorted Padmé Amidala, the queen of Naboo, along with her entourage, to his suite in 500 Republica. Anakin Skywalker, a young boy, and Jar Jar Binks, a Gungan, accompanied them. Shortly after their arrival, Skywalker and Binks waited just outside the apartment's sitting room, with the Gungan seated on a small chair. Captain Quarsh Panaka then walked past them and entered the sitting room. Inside, Queen Amidala was seated on a small couch, flanked by two of her handmaidens. Panaka stood to the side as Senator Palpatine paced before the young queen, discussing the corruption within the Galactic Senate and the unlikelihood of the Senate responding effectively to the Trade Federation's invasion of Naboo. Queen Amidala noted that Supreme Chancellor Finis Valorum believed there was a chance of action, to which Palpatine responded that the Chancellor had little real power in the Senate. Amidala then inquired about their available options.

Palpatine, moving closer to the young queen, suggested that the election of a new Supreme Chancellor was the best course of action, and proposed she call for a Vote of No Confidence in Valorum. Taken aback, Amidala pointed out Valorum's support for them. Palpatine then stepped back and resumed pacing, explaining that their only other option was to present their case to the courts. Remaining seated, Queen Amidala expressed her frustration, emphasizing that their people were dying and they needed a swift resolution. Palpatine paused, gave the queen an apologetic look, and then continued pacing, informing her that they would have to accept Federation control of their planet for the time being. The senator then stopped and looked back to Queen Amidala as she informed him she could not do what he was suggesting. Simultaneously, outside the sitting room, Skywalker pulled Binks from his chair and led him away.
