Pawn

A Sorcerer of Rhand During his Restoration campaign against the New Republic, Pawn was the designation for any of the specially selected agents of Cronal.

Cronal's raids captured Force-sensitive prisoners, who were then chosen to become Pawns. At the Election Center on Mindor, these prisoners underwent a surgical procedure where crystals of meltmassif were implanted into their brain. These crystals propagated throughout the prisoner's nervous system, enabling Cronal to control them through the Force. The process culminated in the attachment of a Shadow Crown to the patient's head; this device acted as a control mechanism, solidifying the connection between the Pawns and their master. The Crown projected a holographic mask over the wearer's face, resembling the appearance of Lord Shadowspawn.

The Pawns were Cronal's highest-ranking subordinates around the Battle of Mindor, and they could command his troops with simple gestures. However, their primary function was more sinister. Cronal used them as vessels to project his spirit, effectively making the Pawns extensions of his will and potential bodies for him to inhabit if his physical form was destroyed.

Furthermore, they played a critical role in Cronal's scheme to seize control of Luke Skywalker, replacing the young Jedi's consciousness with his own and cultivating his image as a successor to Palpatine to become the next Emperor. However, one of his own Pawns intervened, causing his plan to fail.

While Cronal utilized Pawns, other Sorcerers of Rhand also did so. Other members of this order possessed the knowledge, but they lacked access to meltmassif and instead utilized Nihil smokestone.
