Pelekotan was the term used by the Korunnai inhabitants of Haruun Kal to refer to the Force. It can be roughly translated as "world-power," but its direct translation is "jungle mind." As the Korunnai were a Force-sensitive species, descendants of a forgotten anthropological expedition by Jedi to the planet, pelekotan functioned as the equivalent of the spiritual strength and focus that the light side of the Force provided for the Jedi.
Whether pelekotan originated from any formal religious structure among the Korun people remains unknown, except for a significant figure called the lor pelek (meaning "jungle master"). The lor pelek was a shaman who personified the power of pelekotan, described as a being of immense power and danger, as unpredictable as the jungle itself. This figure was known to possess healing abilities, and could often be a formidable warrior. Kar Vastor, who held the position of lor pelek at the onset of the Clone Wars, embodied these characteristics perfectly. During Mace Windu's mission to Haruun Kal, he observed that Kar Vastor possessed unique Force powers unfamiliar to and never witnessed by the Jedi, apparently acquired through his life in the jungle. One such power was the ability to expel deadly fever wasp parasites from the brain and nervous system of an infected individual through the Force.
The Korunnai interacted with pelekotan as a means of survival in the perilous jungles of their native world, with the goal of protecting their herds and tribes. Pelekotan itself was depicted as a mystical entity, a force that governed the darkness of the Korunnai's environment, possibly representing the jungle itself. It demanded a sacrifice from those who used it to survive the horrors of the jungle (for instance, Kar Vastor lost the ability to speak coherently in exchange for the enhanced Force abilities he needed to survive).
Vastor described pelekotan in this way: "Pelekotan gives us waking visions of our desires and our fears. When we desire what we fear and fear what we desire, pelekotan always responds… Only pelekotan is real. Everything else is merely forms and shadows: even less substantial than a cloud, or a memory. We are pelekotan's dream."
