Doctor Piodas Ray was a biochemist specializing in clinical studies. He lived during the era of the Galactic Civil War. After the Battle of Yavin, Ray served the Galactic Empire as a member of their science division. He was stationed at the Imperial Research and Prison Facility on the planet Dathomir. At that location, scientists were covertly performing perilous scientific investigations for the Empire, with the goal of re-engineering the terrible Blackwing virus into a bioweapon. Dr. Ray's work took place on level 2 of the research laboratory. In 1 ABY, Piodas Ray was present at the Imperial Research and Prison Facility when an incident occurred, resulting in the escape of the virus from its containment. The virus caused the deaths of the majority of individuals in the area, transforming them into undead beings.
The character of Piodas Ray was referenced in the 2003 video game Star Wars Galaxies. This massively multiplayer online roleplaying game was created by Sony Online Entertainment and distributed by LucasArts. The game was eventually shut down on December 15, 2011. The reference to Piodas Ray was implemented in the game via "Game Update 14," which was launched on October 12, 2009.
