A healthcare center was situated on the asteroid settlement of Polis Massa. It was at this location that Padmé Amidala gave birth to her children, Luke and Leia, who were twins.
Features
The inhabitants of the Polis Massa asteroid had established excavation sites for archaeological purposes, intending to reveal the secrets of the lost indigenous population of the original Polis Massa planet. These extraterrestrials eventually became known as the Polis Massans, who developed a small yet effective civilization on the barren asteroid. Among the primary structures on Polis Massa was the medical center, which served as a location for both surgical procedures and scientific investigation. Items discovered at the excavation sites were transported to the medical facility for examination by Polis Massan exobiologists, who analyzed the artifacts for organic material suitable for replication. Having acquired cloning knowledge from the natives of Kamino, the Polis Massans were highly skilled in this area, known for their medical proficiency.
The medical center consisted of a collection of short, white structures and domes, with the main medical building standing slightly taller at the back of the complex. A landing platform was connected to the building, providing convenient access to the medical center for the limited number of visitors to Polis Massa. An observation dome provided a view of the entire facility.
Inside the sterile environment of the Polis Massa medical facility was a fully-equipped surgical suite. Several Polis Massan exobiologists and medical technicians oversaw this operating room, while a GH-7 medical analysis unit and obstetric droids carried out surgeries and assisted in childbirth. The room featured wall-mounted displays and scanners, and a transparisteel wall separated the theater from observers outside. In the center of the operating room was a single, padded operating table.
History
Obi-Wan Kenobi transported Padmé Amidala to the Polis Massa medical facility after the Galactic Empire was formed. Padmé was in critical condition and nearing the delivery of her twins, so she received care from four Polis Massan medical technicians and their surgical droids. An obstetric droid assisted with Padmé's delivery, but the medical staff could not save Amidala. Despite the twins being born and finding homes with loving families, Padmé passed away in the operating room—not because of physical injuries, but possibly because a broken heart is irreparable.
During the Empire's rise to power, the facility housed a Rebel group that Imperial Intelligence believed had transmitted the Death Star schematics. Based on this information, the Imperial 501st Legion attacked the facility and eliminated all Rebel operations in the area.
