Pom-hopper

The Pom-hopper was a creature that originated from Naboo. This amphibious mammal thrived in aquatic environments, displaying a clear preference for water over land.

Characteristics

Sleeping Pom-hoppers.

These petite herbivores, with their delicate frames, were endemic to the swamps of Naboo. Their lightweight build was attributed to their somewhat porous bone structure, and they possessed facial characteristics reminiscent of canines. Their name stemmed from their characteristic behavior of rapidly hopping across bodies of water covered with Pom Petals. The presence of poms was vital for the Pom-hoppers' survival; a lack of Pom pheromones could even lead to infertility.

Pom-hoppers possessed broad, webbed feet which allowed them to jump between and maintain balance on large Pom Petals. They also had small tusks, which served both as a means of defense and for severing blossoms. Typically, these animals would sleep while submerged, utilizing their tube-like nostrils for breathing; this same method was employed to evade predators.

History

Shortly after 32 BBY, the Gungans undertook an effort to establish an ecosystem on the moon of Ohma-D'un by relocating Pom-hoppers, along with other species. Regrettably, the majority of Ohma-D'un's plant and animal life was decimated during the Clone Wars by the Separatists in the Battle of Ohma-D'un.

A lone female pom-hopper was discovered on a moon within the Ryloth system.
