The initial release for the Star Wars Customizable Card Game was the Premiere Limited edition. Launched in 1995, this base set contained a total of 324 cards, divided equally with 162 cards for the Dark Side and 162 for the Light Side. The card rarities were equally distributed, with 108 rare, 108 uncommon, and 108 common cards. The key difference between the Premiere Limited set and the Premiere Unlimited set lies in the border colors: the Limited edition features black borders, whereas the Unlimited edition has white borders. Many iconic characters from Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope made their debut in this set. However, notable omissions from this set included characters and locations crucial to Episode IV, such as Chewbacca, R2-D2, and the Death Star.
This set was distributed through expansion packs containing 15 cards and expansion boxes holding 36 packs. Additionally, starter decks were sold, each containing 60 cards, and available in displays of 12 decks. Every pack guaranteed one rare card, along with four uncommon cards, and ten common cards. Production of this set ceased in April 1996, coinciding with the release of the nearly identical Premiere Unlimited expansion. A Japanese version of this expansion was also produced and distributed in Japan.
Many character names from Episode IV originated from this set. This includes a significant number of cantina patrons, such as BoShek, Nabrun Leids, Trinto Duaba, Djas Puhr, and numerous others. The set also provided names for Rebel pilots like Garven Dreis and Davish Krail, Imperial figures such as Praji and Wullf Yularen, as well as various individual droids.
