The inaugural full expansion for the Star Wars Customizable Card Game was the A New Hope Limited collection. Released in July 1996, it presented 162 cards, evenly split with 81 cards for the Dark Side and 81 for the Light Side. The set's composition included 54 cards each of rare, uncommon, and common varieties. Many iconic characters originating from Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope, who were absent from the original Premiere Limited base set, made their debut in this expansion. Furthermore, the game saw the introduction of its first epic event cards, such as Commence Primary Ignition and Attack Run. As an expansion, each card in the set features a unique symbol indicative of its origin. This symbol, depicting crossed lightsabers, can be found in the upper right area of the card, situated to the right of the lore and beneath the destiny number.
This collection was available for purchase in expansion packs containing 15 cards, as well as in expansion boxes holding 36 packs. Each individual pack contained a distribution of one rare, four uncommon, and ten common cards. There were no starter decks created specifically for this set. Production ceased in September 1998, coinciding with the release of A New Hope Revised Unlimited, a nearly identical set distinguished by minor alterations to the card text and white borders in place of black. A Japanese version of the set was also produced and distributed in Japan.
The names of numerous characters from Episode IV were first established in this set. This includes several patrons of the cantina like Swilla Corey and Garouf Lafoe, Rebel officers such as Pello Scrambas and Bob Hudsol, the droid character U-3PO, and Imperial officers Khurgee and Shann Childsen. It is also the origin of the name URoRRuR'R'R for the Tusken Raider who attacked Luke Skywalker.
