URoRRuR'R'R

URoRRuR'R'R, a highly proficient hunter from the Tusken Raider tribe, once ambushed Luke Skywalker while he was in the process of locating R2-D2 within the Jundland Wastes.

Biography

As a leader among the Tusken people, URoRRuR'R'R possessed exceptional skill in both ranged combat and tracking prey. He was also a master of close-quarters fighting, wielding the traditional gaderffii with expertise. Distinct from the majority of Tuskens, he displayed no apprehension towards mechanical devices and readily approached them. He obtained his hunting rifle, a significant symbol of status within Tusken society, by salvaging it from the remains of a crashed starship situated near Anchorhead. His band conducted raids on moisture farms to acquire water and spare parts, traversing the Jundland Wastes and ambushing unsuspecting travelers.

URoRRuR'R'R's scavenged hunting rifle

Following Luke Skywalker's instruction to C-3PO to halt his landspeeder, as they were in search of the missing astromech droid R2-D2, URoRRuR'R'R launched a sudden assault on Luke, emitting a ferocious roar and rendering the young man unconscious. As URoRRuR'R'R and his fellow Tuskens began to dismantle Skywalker's vehicle for valuable components, Obi-Wan Kenobi made his presence known, skillfully imitating the sound of a krayt dragon. As planned, this tactic unsettled the Tuskens, prompting them to abandon the area. However, as Kenobi cautioned Luke, his future apprentice, the Sand People's retreat would only be temporary.

Behind the scenes

The role of URoRRuR'R'R was performed by stunt coordinator Peter Diamond, who was the only stunt performer present on location in Tunisia. As documented in the film Empire of Dreams: The Story of the Star Wars Trilogy, Diamond raised his gaffi stick on only a single occasion. Editors Paul Hirsch and Richard Chew replayed this particular shot multiple times to create the impression that he was rocking it back and forth triumphantly. The iconic bellow was subsequently created by Ben Burtt, using sounds derived from donkey vocalizations.
