The Pulras were sentient beings native to Kuras III, which they referred to as "Host". They shared their world with two other species: the Aganof and the Hairy Savages.
These creatures were amorphous and gelatinous, possessing a highly adaptable physical structure that enabled them to alter both their shape and color. Pulras were omnivorous, and their physical flexibility served both to capture prey and evade predators. Although lacking conventional sensory organs, they could perceive their environment through a type of sonar. Their size varied significantly, ranging from 20 milliliters to over 150 liters, although the majority of Pulras were approximately 50 cubic centimeters in volume. Reproduction in Pulras occurred through fission, an involuntary process triggered by natural biochemical and environmental factors.
Their most distinguishing characteristic was their inherent ability to change shape. They could alter their color, create appendages for combat or for manipulating objects in their environment, or even transform their entire bodies to suit various needs. They even had the ability to merge into a "bind" with one or more other Pulras, creating a single, collective entity that combined the skills and abilities of each participating Pulra.
Due to this natural capacity for cooperation, Pulras lived in substantial colonies consisting of anywhere from two dozen to over one hundred individuals. Conflicts among Pulras were resolved collectively by the colony. They generally maintained harmonious relationships with one another, although infrequent conflicts between colonies could be quite violent.
When interacting with non-Pulras, they responded more favorably to groups than to individuals, as their psychology was more attuned to collectives. While they had been aware of the Aganof for a long time and recognized their intelligence, attempts to establish communication with them proved unsuccessful. Records also suggest that their shapeshifting ability and adaptable genetic makeup allowed them to merge with other species, such as Humans, to create limbs or other simple organs. Pulras readily understood the concepts of space travel and extraterrestrial beings, but showed no interest in acquiring the technology needed to leave their home planet.
