Aganof

Aganof were non-humanoid sentient beings, originating from the subterranean caverns of Kuras III within the Elrood sector.

Biology and appearance

Their bodies were elongated, positioned close to the ground, and supported by multiple rows of diminutive "legs." Along their backs ran a line of heat-releasing flaps, intermixed with olfactory stalks. A small mouth was situated beneath each flap, used to capture minuscule organisms drawn to the heat emitted. Both extremities of the Aganof's body terminated in a jointed appendage, each tipped with a pointed claw. Being both sightless and hearing-impaired, Aganof relied on vibrations and scents as their primary means of communication.

An Agonof.

Aganof exhibited hermaphroditism: every Aganof was capable of laying fertilized eggs inside the spawning caverns.

Society and culture

Infectious moss was regarded as a choice food item, and it was suggested that a humanoid afflicted with the moss could possibly convince the Aganof to consume the moss from their own body. Despite possessing high intellect and philosophical leanings, their knowledge of the galaxy beyond their cave system was limited, and they had minimal interaction with the surface-dwelling Pulras and Hairy Savages.

All Aganof that hatched inside the same cave were regarded as a single tribal unit and were under the leadership of the oldest member. The species lacked any concept of "war" and would often convene for intellectual discussions and philosophical debates. Their subterranean existence meant they had no understanding of the sky or the cosmos.
