Purbole
The purbole was a simian-like being that originated from the planet Dathomir; its existence is considered part of simian lore.
Biology and appearance
On Dathomir, purboles were diminutive, odorous, intelligent, and aggressive simian creatures. These animals typically formed packs for both living and hunting, primarily dwelling in the upper reaches of the tree canopy. Their hunting strategy involved observing their prey from the trees, then ambushing them from above. Conversely, rancors utilized their elongated limbs to navigate the trees and prey on Purboles. Nevertheless, the primates' intelligence and nimbleness allowed them to evade rancors. Their society was composed of various roles including hunters, scouts, stalkers, and elders.
A possible connection exists between them and the comparable ro-roos found on Kashyyyk.
History
Following the Battle of Yavin, a group of purboles took up residence in the remains of the destroyed passenger liner called the Tzarina, acting as its guardians.
Behind the scenes
Purboles were featured as creatures in the massively multiplayer online roleplaying game Star Wars Galaxies: An Empire Divided from 2003 until the game's termination on December 15, 2011. The preliminary design sketches presented in From Pencil to Pixel: The Art of Star Wars Galaxies referred to the purbole as a "monkey sloth."
