Purdy M. Trico was a male Human who held the rank of captain in the Imperial forces. He commanded a Star Destroyer that was later renamed Crynyd during the Galactic Civil War.
Trico hailed from a planet with intense gravity, his homeworld. He practiced the polytheistic faith of his forebears, who had established themselves on that world four generations prior. Despite the Empire's policies against religion, he secretly continued to worship their gods, including Mugg, Bron, and Pula. This practice persisted even during his time at the Academy and as a junior officer, yet he avoided expulsion and advanced in his career. By the era of the Imperial Remnant, he was serving as the captain of an Imperial Star Destroyer.
In the year 5 ABY, while engaged in combat within a certain star system, the bow of his Destroyer sustained heavy damage from a New Republic gunship. Consequently, he and his task force retreated to the perceived safety of the Milagro system. However, their plan was disrupted by the presence of the Rebel Dreadnaught New Hope orbiting the planet. Alarmed, he initiated a long-range assault using TIEs, hoping to conceal the location of his damaged Star Destroyer from the heavily plated Dreadnaught. This strategy was compromised when an HWK-290 and an X-wing exited hyperspace nearby and managed to penetrate the defensive screen surrounding the Star Destroyer.
These ongoing setbacks led him to feel abandoned by his deities. Compounding this, the Dreadnaught began to advance on their position. He swiftly executed his XO for being too engrossed in the starfighter combat to provide timely warnings about the approaching Dreadnaught. Subsequently, he observed on the holo that the two smaller ships had positioned themselves within the innermost layer of their defenses, apparently to deter both sides from firing. Trico initially ordered their destruction, but upon a warning from the weapons-control officer, he instead commanded a break in formation, a decision he would regret. His mood worsened as he watched the officer fail to eliminate the two ships, and then heard the confirmation that the Dreadnaught was preparing to engage. Once the Dreadnaught was within firing range, Trico ordered full power to the forward laser cannons, dismissing the officer's suggestion to regroup or retreat, which would have meant abandoning the TIE pilots. His attempt to execute the officer was interrupted by the arrival of the Millennium Falcon and three squadrons of starfighters.
His crew continued to fight for three hours under the threat of being shot for deserting their posts. He stubbornly persisted in the hopeless battle, even as the hull of his ship was breached and half of her laser batteries were destroyed. As the weapons-control officer shot him in the head, his final act was to scream the names of his gods. The officer was certain that Trico's erratic actions had been recorded by the ship's computers.
Due to being a settler on a high-gravity world, he was a very muscular man of one and a half meters in height.
He was regarded as one of the more capable officers within the Imperial Navy, placing a high value on discipline and known for his severe demeanor. As was sometimes the case in the Navy, he showed no hesitation in executing subordinates for failing him. Despite making questionable decisions, his crew would not dare to show insubordination. Despite his harshness, he was mindful of the lives of the TIE pilots, understanding that retreat would mean death or capture for them.
Trico was a steadfast adherent to an ancient polytheistic religion and consistently wore a religious amulet hidden beneath his uniform. During times of adversity, he felt that his gods were unappreciative of his years of devotion.
In the audio adaptation of Dark Forces: Jedi Knight, John Wehrmann provided his voice.
