The designation Crynyd was bestowed upon an Imperial II-class Star Destroyer following its seizure by the New Republic during a confrontation within the Milagro system.
In the year 5 ABY, this particular Star Destroyer was under the command of the notoriously cruel Captain Purdy M. Trico. It encountered a skirmish within a certain star system, where a New Republic gunboat inflicted substantial damage to its forward section. Consequently, accompanied by its task force, comprising approximately thirty support vessels and transports, the vessel initiated a hyperspace jump toward the Milagro system for necessary repairs.
It materialized shortly after the primary Imperial contingents had retreated from the ravaged planet of Milagro. The dreadnaught New Hope remained as the New Republic's designated command ship in that operational theater. Given the damage sustained by his own vessel and the formidable armor of the Dreadnaught, Trico authorized a fighter assault, aiming to conceal his ship's precise position.
However, the Destroyer was detected by Luke Skywalker piloting his X-wing and the Moldy Crow, under the control of Jan Ors. These two ships inadvertently exited hyperspace in proximity to the Star Destroyer, thereby revealing its location to Captain Tola, the commanding officer aboard the New Hope, and Han Solo, who was leading a squadron. The Destroyer's escort ships had established a defensive perimeter, with their fire-control systems centrally managed by the Destroyer's computer to maximize effectiveness. Nevertheless, Skywalker, guided by the Force, skillfully navigated their ships through the protective screen.
Trico executed his XO for failing to adequately monitor the dreadnaught's movements. Disregarding the better judgment of his crew, Trico ordered a disruption of the formation to target the two troublesome ships. It was at this juncture that Solo, aboard the Millennium Falcon, launched a direct assault on Trico's vessel with his squadron.
Over the subsequent three hours, the Destroyer endured extensive damage, including breaches to its hull and the loss of half of its laser batteries. Despite this, Trico remained steadfast in his command, threatening any act of insubordination with execution. Faced with an increasingly dire situation, the weapons-control officer fatally shot Trico. Unconditional surrender followed within a mere two minutes.
The vessel was subsequently renamed Crynyd in honor of the Rebel hero Arvel Crynyd, who perished when his fighter impacted the bridge of the Executor during the Battle of Endor.
Following its refitting, the Crynyd was integrated into Solo Fleet for the purpose of pursuing Warlord Zsinj. During the operation aimed at trapping the Iron Fist at the Battle of Vahaba, the Crynyd and the Skyhook provided defense for the Imperial interdictor Stellar Web. Immediately after Zsinj's escape from Vahaba, the Crynyd participated in the engagement against Zsinj's backup forces at the Battle of Selaggis. During this battle, the Crynyd played a role in the capture of the Imperial I-class Star Destroyer Red Gauntlet.
After the New Republic formed an alliance with the Hapes Consortium, the Crynyd, along with numerous other Star Destroyers, met its end while battling the forces of High Admiral Treuten Teradoc in a military campaign following Zsinj's demise.
Within the Dark Forces: Jedi Knight audio drama, the ship is identified as a Victory-class Star Destroyer.
