The Battle of Selaggis represented a continuation of the military conflict that began at the Battle of Vahaba. Further, it served as the final large-scale confrontation with Zsinj prior to the Battle of Dathomir.
General Han Solo's fleet, alongside an Imperial interdictor commanded by Admiral Teren Rogriss, had previously engaged Zsinj at the Vahaba asteroid belt. This initial attack resulted in damage to Zsinj's flagship, the Iron Fist. Zsinj executed a jump away from the battle zone, anticipating a return to his controlled territories. However, sabotage orchestrated by Gara Petothel led to an unexpected exit from hyperspace within the Selaggis system, leaving his hyperdrive inoperable.
Petothel transmitted a HoloNet message to Solo, revealing Zsinj's coordinates. Solo initially hesitated to re-engage, but a subsequent communication from the Halmad system changed his mind. This second call indicated that Zsinj was summoning the Hawk-bats and any available pirates to bolster his forces. Solo realized he now had a legitimate opportunity to eliminate Zsinj.
Solo's fleet advanced toward Selaggis. Upon arrival, they discovered that one of Zsinj's battle groups had successfully linked up with him. Additionally, Zsinj deployed the decoy vessel Second Death, concealed by an orbital nightcloak. After his attempts to destroy Solo's fighter squadrons within the asteroids of Selaggis VI failed, Zsinj deployed his imitation "181st Imperial Fighter Wing" to divert Rogue Squadron and Wraith Squadron while he made his escape.
By strategically placing explosive charges on asteroids, Zsinj managed to slow the Mon Remonda sufficiently to allow him to enter the Second Death's nightcloak. After the Iron Fist jumped into hyperspace from within the nightcloak's cover, the Second Death was detonated, disintegrating into debris. Zsinj contacted Solo via shuttle, leading Solo to believe that he had finally destroyed the Iron Fist.
In actuality, the Iron Fist was en route to Rancor Base situated on Dathomir. Solo would still be forced to confront him one last time.
