Purgatory-class prison ship
The Purgatory-class prison ship represented a modified iteration of the Porter-class transport vessel.
Characteristics
Its design, exceeding a kilometer in overall length, was characterized by a bulky, boxy, and sluggish profile, though it was operationally effective. Nevertheless, the ship's performance was substandard when forced into combat situations.
Although the Purgatory lacked atmospheric entry capabilities, it featured a pair of landing bays, each accommodating three Peth-class transport shuttles alongside two TIE fighters.
The prison blocks were structured with numerous cells designed for ten prisoners each, furnished with rudimentary and uncomfortable sleeping platforms.
History
Due to dissatisfaction with the conditions prevalent within the Porter-class troop transports, initially developed for the Clone Wars, Rothana Heavy Engineering undertook a project to convert these vessels into prison ships for the Galactic Republic, subsequently designating them as the Purgatory-class.
During the era of the Galactic Empire, these ships saw service on the penal colony of Ord Vaxal.
