PX-4 Mobile Command Base

The PX-4 Mobile Command Base, a product of Nen-Carvon, was a command center on treads designed for tactical operations.

Characteristics

With a length of 21.8 meters, the PX-4 Mobile Command Base boasted heavy armor and substantial weaponry. Encased within a metallic shell half a meter thick, the PX-4 featured a command pod at its center, further shielded for enhanced protection. The vehicle's exterior was layered with reflective shielding. Sensors and computers diligently observed every facet of ongoing combat, transmitting data to the commander within the pod, and offering real-time analysis along with tactical recommendations. This data was presented through computer screens, holographic tactical displays, and communication systems. Communication monitoring extended from standard Imperial channels to intercepted enemy broadcasts.

A single Mk 1e/S heavy laser cannon was affixed atop the PX-4, mounted on a slowly rotating turret. While this weapon provided some offensive capability, the PX-4 was not designed for direct combat engagement. The PX-4 utilized tracked treads for battlefield mobility, commonly achieving speeds of 100 kilometers per hour, with reports of some units reaching 200 kilometers per hour. It could transport a metric ton of cargo, including enough supplies to last a week. Operated by a crew of three, including a dedicated gunner, the PX-4 also offered space for seven passengers.

History

A PX-4 escorted by stormtroopers

The Galactic Empire made use of the PX-4 Mobile Command Base to ensure the secure transit of commanders into active combat zones. Functioning as a mobile headquarters, it enabled the unit commander to accompany soldiers without being exposed to undue danger. Typically, the PX-4 was positioned away from the immediate front lines, allowing officers to formulate tactical and strategic decisions in a safe environment. The PX-4 was deployed via landing craft. LAAT/c dropships were frequently used, although they could also be suspended beneath Sentinel-class landing craft. They also formed part of the vehicle complement carried by the IF-120 landing craft.

On planets with populations openly hostile to the Empire, planetary prefects and governors depended on the PX-4 for secure transportation. Some were even known to reside permanently within the PX-4, never venturing outside its armored confines.

Governor Grigor utilized a PX-4 during the Battle of Red Rock on the planet M'haeli. During the conflict, it was destroyed by forces of the Alliance to Restore the Republic.
