Qlothos

Qlothos, a planet found within the Inner Rim, was characterized by its cloudy atmosphere. In the year 3 ABY, the Interrogator, an Imperial II-class Star Destroyer, picked up peculiar transmissions originating from Qlothos. These transmissions bore a resemblance to those previously sent by the Rebel Alliance. Senior Lieutenant Leeds, operating under the assumption that these signals pointed to a Rebel garrison on the planet, gave the order for a TIE bomber strike. Regrettably, one of the bombers' missiles deviated from its intended course, leading to the destruction of a residential area. This resulted in the deaths of approximately sixty citizens of the Galactic Empire, among them a well-known engineer from Kuat Drive Yards. Captain Jovan Vharing of the Star Destroyer, who was asleep at the time of the ill-fated attack, was later executed as a consequence of Leeds' grave error.

Description

Situated in the Trailing Sectors region of the Inner Rim, Qlothos was a planet within the Qlothos system. Its cloudy atmosphere had the potential to disrupt the function of the identification beacons integrated into the concussion missiles used by the TIE/sa bomber.

History

Captain Jovan Vharing (pictured) was executed for the disastrous attack on Qlothos ordered by his senior lieutenant Leeds.

In 3 ABY, a prominent engineer from Kuat Drive Yards was vacationing in the capital of Qlothos, accompanied by his wife and two sons. Simultaneously, the Interrogator, an Imperial II-class Star Destroyer belonging to the Galactic Empire, was positioned in close proximity to the planet. While the starship's captain, Jovan Vharing, was sleeping, Senior Lieutenant Leeds intercepted strange transmissions from Qlothos. These transmissions operated on a frequency remarkably similar to previously deciphered codes used by a Rebel Alliance operative. Under the mistaken impression that these transmissions signaled the existence of a clandestine Alliance garrison, Leeds authorized a full squadron of TIE/sa bombers to destroy the supposed base.

Due to atmospheric interference on the planet, one of the bombers' concussion missiles went astray and struck a secluded residential neighborhood located approximately a kilometer away from the suspected Rebel facility, resulting in its destruction. Tragically, this incident led to the killed of nearly sixty civilians, many of whom were high-ranking Imperial citizens and officials, including the Kuat Drive Yards engineer and his family. After assessing the casualties resulting from the attack, Leeds roused Vharing. A few hours later, while the Interrogator was en route to investigate the Nharqis'I nebula in the Outer Rim Territories during 3 ABY, the captain was summoned to meet Imperial High Inquisitor Antinnis Tremayne, who immediately carried out his execution.

Inhabitants

Qlothos was known as a resort world, lacking any significant defenses.

Locations

Qlothos featured both a capital and a residential area.

Behind the scenes

Qlothos was initially referenced in the short story titled "The Longest Fall," authored by Patricia A. Jackson. This story appeared in the November 1996 eleventh issue of the Star Wars Adventure Journal magazine, published by West End Games. In 2009, the reference book The Essential Atlas designated the Qlothos system, and consequently the planet itself, as being situated within grid square M-14.
