Quamin

Quamin (with the plural being quamilla) were predatory fliers native to the jungles of Kidron. These creatures possessed leathery hides, expansive membranous wings, and a lengthy tail. The primary offensive capability of the quamilla resided in the razor-sharp fins located on their tails. Rather than possessing mouths, their heads were equipped with a collection of spongy feeding vents through which they drained blood and other essential fluids from their victims.

Internally, the physiological structure of quamilla included a trio of hearts, substantial lungs that compensated for the rarefied atmosphere of Kidron, lightweight hollow bones, and surprisingly robust musculature. The presence of redundant internal organs contributed to their exceptional stamina and facilitated rapid recovery from internal injuries. Furthermore, they possessed an acute sense of smell, relying on it as their primary sensory input instead of sight. The primary vulnerability of these creatures was their tail blades; a broken tail blade would require a full week to regenerate, leaving the quamin unable to hunt and susceptible to starvation.

Quamilla typically moved in groups, referred to as packs or flights, consisting of five to ten individuals. Despite their collaborative hunting efforts on large prey, quamilla exhibited a notable lack of harmony. Following a successful kill, disputes over the choicest portions were common, as were conflicts for dominance within the pack. They were not territorial.

These creatures would silently navigate the skies, descending swiftly to assault larger solitary creatures or groups of creatures in successive waves. Their hunting strategy did not involve immediate fatalities; instead, they would inflict lacerations with their tail fins, pursuing their prey until it succumbed to blood loss. Subsequently, the quamilla would extract fluids from the incapacitated prey, leaving behind the remains for slorks.

Travelers venturing into Kidron were frequently cautioned to exercise vigilance while traversing the forests and hills of Kidron, to avoid becoming the target of a quamin assault. Nevertheless, the inhabitants of Kidron discovered at least a single practical application for quamilla. The tail blades of quamilla were utilized as weaponry by certain Orfites on Kidron, as well as by some individuals from other worlds. These blades could be affixed to poles, woven into the construction of whips, or employed as projectiles. It was rumored that these blades maintained their sharpness indefinitely, although they were relatively fragile.

A population of quamilla was also discovered on Nal Hutta. As part of his intricate scheme on Nal Hutta to ensnare Jodo Kast, Boba Fett tasked Dengar with gathering a number of quamilla, which were then unleashed to attack Kast upon his arrival. Dengar characterized the operation as more challenging than some of his hunts, and humorously referred to the quamilla as "lovable leeches".
