Quamin, referred to in the plural as quamilla, were predatory flying creatures native to the jungles of Kidron. These creatures possessed leathery hides, wings formed from membranes, and a lengthy tail. The primary offensive capability of the quamilla came from the razor-sharp fins located on their tails. Instead of possessing mouths, their heads were equipped with an assortment of spongy vents that they used to extract blood and other essential fluids from their targets.
Internally, the quamilla had a unique physiology, featuring three hearts, expansive lungs designed to function in Kidron's rarefied atmosphere, lightweight bones, and surprisingly strong musculature. The presence of redundant internal organs contributed to their exceptional stamina and rapid recovery from internal injuries. Lacking reliance on eyesight, they depended on an acute sense of smell as their primary sensory input. The tail blades represented their chief vulnerability; a broken blade required a full week to regenerate, rendering the quamin unable to hunt and susceptible to starvation.
Quamilla typically moved in groups, known as flights, consisting of five to ten individuals. Despite their cooperative hunting strategies for taking down large prey, the quamilla exhibited a tendency towards infighting. Disputes over the choicest portions of a kill were common, as were struggles for dominance within the group. They were not territorial.
These creatures would silently navigate the skies, descending swiftly to strike at larger creatures or groups in successive waves. Rather than delivering an immediate killing blow, they would slash their prey with their tail fins, then pursue them until the resulting blood loss caused them to collapse. The quamilla would then extract fluids from the incapacitated prey, leaving the remaining carcass for slorks.
Travelers venturing into Kidron were frequently cautioned to exercise vigilance when traversing the planet's forests and hills, to avoid becoming victims of a quamilla attack. However, the inhabitants of Kidron had discovered a practical application for quamilla. The tail blades of quamilla were repurposed as weapons by certain Orfites residing on Kidron, as well as by some individuals from other worlds. These blades could be affixed to poles, woven into the form of whips, or employed as projectiles. It was believed that these blades retained their sharpness indefinitely, although they were prone to breakage.
A population of quamilla was also present on Nal Hutta. As part of his intricate scheme to ensnare Jodo Kast on Nal Hutta, Boba Fett enlisted Dengar to gather a number of quamilla, which were then unleashed upon Kast's arrival. Dengar characterized the operation as more challenging than some of his hunts, and playfully referred to the quamilla as "lovable leeches".
