The R2-AG agromech droid, which is also referred to as the R2-AG4 agromech droid, represented a specific model of agromech droid within the R-series, and was produced by Industrial Automaton. Functioning as a specialized offshoot of the R2-series astromech droid line, this model was engineered for optimal interaction with farming tools and machinery involved in food production, and it achieved a degree of market acceptance. During the year of 22 BBY, Industrial Automaton made the decision to repurpose unused casings from their discontinued R5-series astromech droid series for the manufacturing of both the R2-AG line and the R4-series agromech droid line, aiming to recover financial setbacks experienced after a year marked by subpar sales performance. Despite this effort, these re-cased agromech droids did not achieve significant commercial success.
R2-AG units incorporated an arc welder, a Cybot acoustic signaller, deployable manipulator arms, a wheeled tripedal locomotion system with retractable legs, a video display screen, and a visual sensor.
