Raan Calrissian was a male being who made a visit to Cloud City on the planet of Bespin during the era of the Clone Wars. After aiding a Tethan youngling who had broken free from imprisonment, Calrissian intended to depart Cloud City aboard his starship, known as the Jostaar Express. However, before his departure from Bespin could occur, Cloud City was attacked by the forces of the Confederacy of Independent Systems. Feeling obligated to help the Tethan on Bespin, Calrissian sought out the child, and together they left Cloud City aboard the Jostaar Express.
Raan Calrissian was a male being who lived during the ending period of the Galactic Republic.
Around 21 BBY, Calrissian found himself in Cloud City on the planet of Bespin, where he planned to deliver a shipment of minerals to a client located on the world of Socorro using his starship, the Jostaar Express. However, before he received authorization to leave the city, Calrissian was required to wait for a security droid to inspect his ship.
While he was waiting, Calrissian noticed a group of Jedi present within the city. Shortly thereafter, a starship was stopped at a security checkpoint in close proximity to Calrissian. He witnessed a Tethan child, held captive on the craft, escape and conceal themselves behind a pile of crates. Calrissian observed the droid that had been inspecting the Express approach, and he instructed the Tethan to remain hidden, to prevent the droid from noticing the child. The droid informed Calrissian that it had completed its inspection of the Express and that Calrissian was cleared for departure from Gate 134 of Cloud City. After the droid departed, Calrissian went behind the crates, removed the youngling's security bracelets, and then proceeded to board the Jostaar Express.
Shortly after, the Confederacy of Independent Systems commenced an attack against Cloud City. Calrissian determined that he could not abandon the youngling alone in the city, and he began searching for the Tethan. Eventually, he located the child, and together they hurried through Cloud City's departure bay, hoping to reach Calrissian's starship before the spaceport was closed by Cloud City's security forces. A group of security droids permitted Calrissian and the Tethan to bypass a queue, something that Calrissian claimed had cost him a significant amount of credits, and the pair arrived at Gate 134. They boarded the Jostaar Express, and Calrissian instructed the youngling to take position in the craft's gun turret, in case the ship was attacked. Calrissian then piloted the starship out of the dangerous airspace surrounding Cloud City and prepared to depart for Socorro.
Calrissian was a proficient pilot who prioritized business over personal enjoyment. He considered the Tethan to be brave, given the nature of the child's escape, and he also viewed members of the Jedi Order as unscrupulous.
Raan Calrissian was created by Sue Behrent and was featured in The Clone Wars: Decide Your Destiny: Tethan Battle Adventure, a book within the Star Wars: The Clone Wars: Decide Your Destiny series. The book presents multiple potential outcomes depending on the reader's choices, and Calrissian appears in one of the possible plotlines. Following the Tethan's initial encounter with Calrissian, the reader has the option for the youngling to attempt to find him again, to travel off Cloud City with Calrissian. Raan shares the same surname as the character Lando Calrissian, but there is currently no canonical relationship between the two.
