Railgun

A railgun, also known as an electromagnetic projectile launcher, is a type of weapon that used electromagnetic force to propel solid projectiles. Although they were once seen as unusual and uncommon, these weapons had largely fallen out of general use by the era of the Galactic Civil War. Nevertheless, The Most Honourable Guild of Armourers occasionally offered specific railguns for sale to interested purchasers.

During the rise of the Empire, assassins working for Asajj Ventress utilized these weapons against the Jedi Master Yoda. These railguns were compact, handheld devices that generated muzzle flash, emitted tracer fire, and produced a distinctive "chattering" noise when fired. The projectiles fired from them could inflict damage to durasteel.

The miniature rail cannon represented another variety of railgun technology.
